Five Things To Consider When Shopping For A Diaper Bag

These diaper bags may look like designer handbags but they are in fact affordable depending on the design, quality and size. So in case you realize that you do need a diaper bag, here are some tips.

1. If you are contemplating on the size and is having a hard time, you might want to think about your baby's needs. First of all, if you are breastfeeding, then there is really no need for baby bottles allowing you to save space.

In addition, you also have to think about the diaper you use. You can actually use two types of diapers, the disposable and the cloth. If you are using disposable diapers, then you don't need too much space because you will only have to throw away the used diapers and the space you need is only for the new ones. On the other hand, when you are using cloth diapers, you will need space for the unused ones and the soiled ones which means that you will need more space.

So if you are bottle feeding and using cloth diapers then one thing is for sure, you will need a bigger diaper bag. While if you are breastfeeding and using disposable diapers, then an average sized diaper bag will be good enough for you.

2. Also, consider the materials used to manufacture diaper bags. If you want fabric diaper bags, make sure that it has a plastic layer covering it. We all know how fabric stains easily and how hard it is to clean it. The plastic will keep the fabric from staining making it easier to clean.

Other than fabric, vinyl or faux leather is both fashionable and easy to clean. Keep in mind that the materials used should be able to withstand the abuse it will be taking.

3. Although most of the time the mom brings the diaper bag, there are also times when the dad has to bring it. So in cases like this, you will have to consider style. It would be better if you pick a diaper bag that has a unisex style and design.

In addition to gender considerations, you will also have to consider the activities you will be doing with your child. If you are going on long trip and both hands will be busy, you might want to get a backpack diaper bag. For shorter trips, a messenger or sling diaper bag can be a good option.

4. A diaper bag with additional features is a good pick. First of all, the straps should be wide and non-slip. Second, it should have an insulated compartment built specifically for storing feeding bottles. Other features like mobile phone holders, key holders and other extra pockets are good additions. If your diaper bag comes along with a removable diaper changing pad, the better.

5. There are different types of closure available for diaper bags. There are zipper closures, Velcro or snap on closures, magnetic closures and even tie closures. Whatever type of closure you choose, make sure that it allows you to easily reach into the diaper bag.
