Seven Luggage Care Tips

Luggage bags undergo a lot of rough handling once checked in. Not bothering to care for it will simply shorten its lifespan no matter how expensive it may be. So here are some luggage bag care tips.

1. If your luggage bag is made out of leather, it is best that you clean it using the recommended leather cleaner for leather luggage bags. A non-alkaline cleanser is highly recommended; it is also good if you use a leather conditioner in order to maintain the strength and beauty of your leather luggage bag. It also helps maintain flexibility and restore resiliency at the same time.

However, if you fail to properly care for your leather luggage bag, you have to know that there is no way to restore cracked and damage leather. Before something like this happens to your luggage bag, clean it the right way. It would also help if you read the manufacturer's care instructions that usually come along when you buy your leather luggage bag.

2. Another material used for luggage bags is ballistic nylon. This material is known for its ability to resist dirt, stains and water making it relatively easy to clean after use. You can clean your luggage bag made of ballistic nylon with water and some soap that doesn't contain any harsh chemicals, preferably a mild one. Remember that some chemicals in soap can end up damaging the ballistic nylon.

3. Hard-side luggage bags are easy to clean. All you have to do is clean it using gentle soap and water, then rinse well. Most hard-side luggage bags tend to be shiny so if want to preserve the luster, you can wax it.

In waxing, use silicon based automobile or furniture wax. Also, waxing can help add resistance to the covering. Avoid using combination cleaners and polish because this will damage the exterior of your hard-side luggage.

4. When your luggage bag is made from polyester, expect it to be durable and made for long use. The polyester material is flexible and is capable of resisting scratches.

To clean luggage made of polyester, all you have to do is wipe it with a rug soaked in water and mild soap. When cleaning, clean the whole luggage and not just the dirty area. It would also be great if you clean your luggage inside and out.

5. Periodically lubricate the wheels of your luggage bag to keep it moving smoothly. Dragging luggage with wheels that need lubrication may not be a good thing and the luggage can be really hard to drag or pull. Also, when going up a flight of stairs do not roll your luggage but instead carry it. Such a practice can shorten the life of the wheels because the impact can damage the axle.

6. Avoid overstuffing your luggage because it would be very hard to zip it close. Also do not force zipping up a luggage especially when it is all too obvious that it is overstuffed. Doing such will only damage the zipper.

7. Store your luggage in a dry place. In case your luggage bag has been stored for quiet some time, it would be best if you take it out to let it breathe.
