Once you check in your luggage, you no longer have control on what will happen to it. As a result, you will end up hoping that nothing gets lost, damaged or stolen from your luggage. Although most airline companies have strict rules on luggage security, there will always be that risk. Your number one concern while traveling is the safety of your luggage. Although most important items are placed in your carry-on bag, it would still be a dilemma if you lose your bag that contains all your clothes. Other than losing it, another probable problem or risk is having it mixed up with someone else's luggage. So to prevent these scenarios from happening, here are some tips. 1. Pack your items yourself. In this way, you will be able to know the items that you packed. When you pack it yourself you know exactly what is inside so in case you lose something, you will be able to notice it immediately. Having someone pack for you is really not a good idea because you won't be able to know what he or she packed or didn't pack for you. 2. If you don't trust your memory, you can always make a list of the contents. It would be better to make this list while you are packing so that you will be sure that the list is accurate. Once done with the list, check the items to make sure that it is indeed inside your luggage. Place the list in your carry-on bag so you can easily access it in case you need it. 3. Avoid packing a lot of valuable stuff because it is hard to lose valuable items. On the other hand, if you do need to bring along some valuable items, it would be better if you put it inside your carry-on bag rather than in your luggage. Valuable items should be kept close to you to keep them from getting lost or stolen. 4. If you had already used that particular luggage bag before, make sure you take out all the tags attached to it especially airline tags. This is done to prevent confusion. You wouldn't want your luggage to end up in a different flight now, do you? 5. Do not ever forget to lock your luggage. Locking it will prevent anyone from accessing its contents. You can use the traditional lock and key or combination locks. If you are using combination locks, make sure you shuffle the numbers or letters after you lock it and do not tell anyone about the combination. 6. Put identification tags on your luggage. Make sure that the tag contains your name, address and contact number. Other than tags, you can also put identifying marks like bright colored ribbons or stickers on your luggage. This will make identifying it easier other than the fact that it will help set your luggage apart from the rest. 7. Never leave your luggage unattended especially when you are at the airport. If possible, take it along with you anywhere you go or leave it with your travel companion granting that you trust him or her. |
